You’re engaged – YAY!! Preparing for a wedding is like a full time job, even when you do have a wedding planner. While I’d totally love to tell you it’s all cake tastings + pink peonies; in reality it’s a ton of planning, budgeting and a few headaches. And here’s where we come in. If anything on your wedding day shouldn’t be stressful, it should be the photography. Let’s be honest, you are going to be dressed to the nines + looking your best no matter what. You will be radiating beauty + so will your photos- we PROMISE!

As you can imagine, there is an endless list of things to decide on – from the table decor, to the officiant, to remembering to purchase a “pretty hanger” for that inevitable hanging wedding gown photo- that’s a given with us. But before you so much as spend a dime on your wedding, here is a list of things you do before the wedding planning can commence.

1. You MUST, I repeat MUST, get your ring insured.
2. Set a timeline- the second you get engaged everyone will be asking if you’ve set a date yet. I suggest picking your favorite season or time of year and going from there.
3. Research! Decide your ideal location, overall aesthetic + style. Do you want a modern or rustic wedding? Do you want a church or outdoor ceremony? Do you want your reception to be at the same venue?
4. Set a budget + stick to it. This is crucial since every decision thereafter will be influenced by your budget.
5. Determine a brief guest list. Each take a few minutes and draft up your ideal guest list + number of guests. Do you want a small, intimate wedding, or a large extravagant wedding?
6. Hire a photographer. This is a given. We HIGHLY recommend choosing a photographer to document your engagement as well as your wedding day. We like to think of our engagement sessions as test runs for the wedding day. If for some reason you feel as though we won’t be a great fit to document your big day after your engagement session, we’d of course love to refer you to someone who we believe can fulfill your photographic needs. Choosing a photographer goes far beyond the days of “eenie meenie mo.” You need to be in search of someone you can trust – after all they’ll be capturing one of the biggest moments of your entire lives!
